A Local Authority’s Tree Policy is the basis upon which a council plants, manages and fells the public trees where we live. Some privately-owned trees also come within the council’s remit, especially if they are covered by a Tree Preservation Order or lie within a conservation area.
Every Local Authority should have an adopted Tree Policy which will be reviewed from time to time, perhaps with a public consultation, and this is a published document you can obtain, often from a council’s website. There will probably be an accompanying Tree Strategy that shows how the Local Authority intends to manage and develop trees in its area.
