Introducing Treetree

I began Treetree out of interest in the trees near my home in Highbury, north London. For an inner city area, this part of Islington has many fine trees, especially its London planes. The website gathers information about several species in and around London, and a few further afield. There are many organisations that aim to support trees in towns and in the landscape. This site is a purely personal one.

At 49.5cm, (191/2in) wide, this fallen leaf of a London plane is far larger than those on plane trees growing in open land where the average will be around 20cm wide; it results from a pruning regime of street trees that removes all their foliage on a 3-5 year cycle, stimulating the trees into fast growth and the production of dense crowns.
